We had a dedication ceremony for our new picture in the Pierson Dining Hall on January 15th 2018, MLK Day.

Martin Luther King Jr celebrated his 30th birthday in 1959 in Pierson College. The portrait on the eastern wall of the Pierson Dining Hall shows him with David George Ball PC ’60 who had invited King to give an address in Woolsey Hall. Ball is the author of “A Marked Heart,” a memoir that recounts the impact King and his visit had on Ball’s life and work. (Photo courtesy of David George Ball)

The original photo is lost, but this low-resolution picture appeared in the Yale Daily News on the occasion of MLK Day in 2014. The image has been digitally restored with the help and generosity of Johannes DeYoung and Justin Berry of the Yale Center for Collaborative Arts and Media.
