Dean Jorge M. Torres
Jorge M. Torres was born in the Bronx, raised in Queens, and has roots in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He received a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry from Yale and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
He teaches venture capital and has taught courses that introduce undergraduates to investing fundamentals as well as providing continuing education to experienced investors wishing to raise their practice to the next level.
He started in the venture capital business at Silas Capital, where he served as an original member of the investment team that partnered with the founders of consumer brands such as Casper, Ringly, Tracksmith and others. Through his affiliation with Kauffman Fellows, he is also a limited partner in Truebridge Capital Partners, a venture capital fund-of-funds.
Dean Torres mentors entrepreneurs through his affiliations with Techstars, Founder Institute, and Endeavor. His mentoring relationships focus on helping companies with product, fundraising, go-to-market, and legal.
He was engaged in the full-time practice of law for a decade prior to venture capital, and he maintains an active status as a US patent attorney (Reg. No. 57,447).
In addition to being Dean of Pierson he serves as a Special Advisor to HBCUvc, a non-profit whose mission is to increase the racial and ethnic diversity in venture capital. While on the HBCUvc team, he designed, prototyped, and implemented a venture capital training program that is currently being scaled across hundreds of historically Black colleges and universities in the US.
Dean Torres became Dean of Pierson College in January 2020.
